Lightning Protection
Dissipation and lightning strikes result inpersonal fatalities, equipment damage, and instantaneous current surges of some18,000 amps. Dissipation, the discharge or neutralization of opposite chargebuildup between ground and the atmosphere, occurs when this opposite chargebuildup becomes so large that it is accommodated as current flow through thesurrounding ambient, i.e. "lightning". By installing a Porcupine, dissipation can be controlled, reduced, and often eliminated. The Porcupine dissipates the ionization buildup.
Contrary to popular belief, farmer's roof top "lightning rods" do not "catch" the lightning strike and take it to ground. Instead, they dissipate ionization, but not as effectivelyas the Porcupine. The Porcupine is a stainless steel flange withover 700 stainless steel hair-like fingers extending outward like a fan forabout 10 inches. It installs very quickly with bolts, sheet metal screws, orhose clamp (not supplied). Excellent for boats, roof tops, athletic fields, repeater sites, flag poles, chimneys, and other applications.
